about

"The debut album from Boston-based producer TODD GYS, Art D’Echo is easily on par with anything ever committed to wax by minimal techno icons such as BASIC CHANNEL, PLASTIKMAN OR SWAYZAK. That’s admittedly a bold statement to make, but just listen to the spatial dynamics and cavernous echoes on tracks like “Beep” and “Gymnasium” and you’ll be sold. Gys explores texture as a quality of sound, with grainy atmospherics shifting in and out of focus while terse 4/4 rhythms spiral outwards to the periphery of one’s range of hearing. Lucid dreaming in the form of sound, and further indication that techno’s possibilities are limitless once released from the confines of the dance floor. Add to that remixes by TWINE AND SUBSTANCE and you’ve got one of the strongest techno long-players of the year."
- XLR8R

"From cold minimal clickhouse to more ambient techno adventures, GYS slathers his tasty tracks with creamy slabs of dub, chock full of spacey echoes and aquatic delays."
- Brainwashed

"Picks up where the Basic Channel roster left off"
- Grooves

"Slick, minimalist grooves... Gys draws on influences ranging from Eno and Tangerine Dream on one side of the spectrum, to Detroit techno and old school dub on the other"
- Outburn (7/10)
